magical moment #2
The second magical moment happened quite recently when Andrew, for the first time, said "I love you". It was bedtime and as usual, I was rocking him while caressing his hair. I told him all sorts of sweet things and lastly told him that I loved him. After a brief silence, I heard a little voice say "I love you mommy." I was so overwhelmed that I could feel the tears of joy on my cheeks. THE moment had finally arrived...

Hi Astrid,
ReplyDeleteThis post brought me to my knees with joy and sadness. Thank you for sharing this moment with us. Martin and I would be happy to help where we can. My mom owns a school for autistic children and adults in Hawaii. www.lovelandacademy.com. I have seen first had the difference a good school can make in the lives of the child and family. Have you tried "suing the state" for Andrew's educational money? This is what she has her parents do (also a for profit school). I can find out more information about how she does it if you are interested. I beleive it is part of the No Child Left Behind act.
I appreciate Earl sharing this challenge with us and your family will be in our thoughts.
Blessed Be,
Julie and Martin
Julie and Martin,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind comments and donation. It is great that your mom owns a school in Hawaii, I am very impressed. Teacch, another therapy, is used in most AU classroom in the state. It was created here in NC at UNC. The Autism Society of NC is also fighting the legislature so that therapies like ABA are covered by insurances. In SC, a mother-lawyer won the fight. Let's hope it works here to give hope to millions of families.
take care,
Astrid
